Risk Level: No Warnings

From 4-7 August 2022, China carried out military drills and live firing exercises in six danger areas in the waters surrounding Taiwan (announced via the ZBBB Notams). This seemed to coincide with a high profile diplomatic visit. Flights were impacted by re-routes, and in some cases cancellations.

Although no new airspace warnings have been issued, risk to overflying aircraft may be escalating - increased military presence and high political tensions on both sides are cause for concern. It is especially important right now that the proper ADIZ procedures are followed, including constant contact with ATC and a discrete squawk code. If hostilities escalate, flights through Taiwan’s RCAA/Taipei FIR as well as surrounding airspace could be impacted.
